Core Movement Wellbeing CIC was created by Kate O’Malley, a Wellness Practitioner and Movement Specialist with over 30 years’ experience in movement, wellbeing, and community-based practice.
Throughout her career, Kate has worked with people of all ages and backgrounds across communities, charities, mental health services, and health settings. She repeatedly saw how many people felt excluded from traditional fitness and wellbeing spaces. Barriers such as health conditions, trauma, grief, low confidence, cost, or life circumstances often meant that movement did not feel accessible, safe, or welcoming.
Alongside her professional experience, Kate’s own lived experience played a pivotal role in shaping Core Movement Wellbeing CIC. She experienced the loss of her mother and the birth of her child on the same day — a moment that held both profound grief and new life. During this time, mindful movement became a powerful way to process emotions, reconnect with her body, and find grounding and resilience.
This experience deepened Kate’s belief that movement should never be about performance or pushing through. Instead, it should be kind, inclusive, and responsive to the nervous system. Core Movement Wellbeing CIC is rooted in a somatic approach — supporting people to gently reconnect with their bodies, tune into sensation, and move in ways that feel safe, empowering, and self-led. This approach is particularly supportive for those living with stress, trauma, chronic conditions, or emotional overwhelm.
As a Community Interest Company, Core Movement Wellbeing CIC exists to serve the wider community. The organisation reinvests into accessible programmes including movement and wellbeing sessions, chair-based exercise, walking groups, mindfulness and relaxation practices, and sharing circles, all delivered through a trauma-informed, somatic lens.
At its heart, Core Movement Wellbeing CIC is about holding space — for movement, for stillness, for connection, and for people to feel seen, supported, and empowered in their own bodies, at their own pace.
